(I'm sparing why actual fueling system didn't need an SR latch but if you're curious I'll explain in the comments). Without knowing how to loop combinator outputs back into inputs, my solution was that box setup. I needed an SR latch to set a value on when my steam got low (400k), and only reset it when my steam got high (1.4m). I wanted a light system to show cyan when my plants are "on" and steam is increasing, and yellow when my plants are "off" and steam is decreasing. My use-case: I have a nuclear plant set up to only turn on when steam is low, and turn off when steam is high (I know I don't need to do this, this was purely an educational exercise for me to learn game mechanics). This backup steam example really took a long time to understand and follow through the logic as accumulator charge goes up and down to see how the value is set and reset. Then trying to follow the logic through time to *really* understand what happens and when was a headache. Traditional latches with combinators require specific setups with careful placement of wires and usually include outputs looping back into inputs and adjusting values that other entities in the network can't see etc. When I read up on them, and found out how each kind worked and why.I honestly felt like my inserters and a box were actually much much easier to understand. Someone recognized that I made an SR latch and pointed me to some documentation on them here:Īnd there's more implementations and styles of latches here: I asked in the weekly question thread how my use-case should have been done better and simplified because my solution really felt too complicated, and I'm brand new to circuit networks and combinators. So because I didn't know all the mechanics of combinators, I ended up building an SR latch with inserters and a box. Look both ways before you cross the tracks. The only significance is life, which leads to the further wisdom. Every assembler is but a visitor to where it resides. Let your anxiety wash away as you perceive that every belt placed can be moved. Most games punish you for building, demolishing and rebuilding. Your mistakes have no cost but time, and the deconstruction planner even reduces that cost.
